"Do your practice and all is coming."

- Sri K. Pattabhi Jois

Please ensure that you read the following school guidelines before you take your first class. These guidelines apply to every student registered at The Yoga Way and should be observed.

  • Arrive 15 minutes early. Because of the small class size there is a 5-minute grace period only. Out of courtesy to others you will not be able to join the class if you arrive late.

  • Yoga is a discipline and an art. To help create a peaceful environment prepare for your class by stretching, sitting in silence or meditating. Please respect this rule and avoid social conversations.

  • No cellular phones/pagers, shoes, food and/or water bottles are permitted in the practice room. There are no exceptions.

  • All classes begin with a traditional Sanskrit mantra (chant). If you arrive during the chant enter the room when the chant is over and quietly.

  • Do not wear perfumes or noticeable deodorants. Both the heat in the room and your sweat may cause you to feel ill. Note: You will not be able to join the class if are wearing noticeable perfumes, etc.

  • A gas fireplace is used to heat the practice room. The heat helps to release toxins and develop flexibility. If you do not feel comfortable with the heat you can practice at the back of the room where it is cooler.

  • Drinking water during the class is not permitted as it breaks your concentration and cools your body down.

  • Opening the door during the class is not permitted and is disruptive. If you feel unwell rest on the mat.

  • Bring a small towel to wipe off sweaty feet and/or hands. Please do not use the carpet or blankets for this purpose.

  • All personal belongings should be stored on the wall shelves or at the entrance. Do not leave your belongings in the washroom out of courtesy to others.

  • Schedule enough time to benefit from the whole class. Leaving early is very disruptive to others and does not allow you to rest from all the work you have done. (Medical reasons excluded.)

  • Yoga is best practiced on an empty stomach. Leave a minimum of 2-3 hours before the class. Try to avoid eating spicy foods as the practice can increase flatulence.

  • Wear comfortable and form fitting clothing. Tights, shorts, tanks and t-shirts are suitable. No bikinis or barechests are permitted.

  • For hygienic reasons it is recommended that you bring your own mat.

  • High quality mats are provided at no extra charge. Cleaning supplies are available for those students who use a mat.

  • Do ensure that you clean the mat well and put away any props you used during the class before leaving.

    Namaskara,

    Heather
