Fall 2008 Registration

Back Bending (FULL) Focus: Strengthening/stretching the legs, and opening the sacrum. Dates: Wed. Mar. 26th & Apr. 2nd/9th, Time: 6:15 - 8:45 p.m.

Back Bending Workshops: Limited to 5 students

Back bends are demanding and powerful asanas. They teach us about our misalignments, fears, perferences, aversions and attachments. Back bends teach us how to 'let go'.

2-Part Series (FULL) Focus: Opening the waist, developing endurance and the breath. Dates: Wed. Feb. 27th & Mar. 5th, Time: 6:15 - 8:45 p.m.

The school will be closed from December 24th to January 3rd. All programs/classes resume January 4th, 2008.


November '07

Back Bending Workshops: Limited to 5 students per workshop

3-Part Series: Wed. Nov. 12, 19 & 26 (FULL)
Time: 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Focus: Increasing the flexibility in the sacrum, low waist and shoulders. Strengthening exercises for the lower back and abdomen as preparation for simple to more advanced back bends.

2-Part Series: Wed. Dec. 14 & 21 (FULL)
Time: 6:15 to 8:45 p.m.
Focus: Improving the mobility of the hip, knee and ankle joints. Strengthening postures to open the chest as well as to develop the lower back and leg muscles.

NOTE: All workshops include photos of the students (CD provided). In addition to the specific focus of each workshop, a variety of back bends will be taught as a sequence linked with the breath.

Fall Registration:

Back Bending:

3-Part Workshop: Wed. June 6th, 13th & 20th
(Full and Wait-listed)

Focused on increasing upper spine flexibility (re: neck, sternum and shoulder) as well as hip and leg opening.

Time: 7:15 to 9:30 p.m.
Space is limited to 5 students.

Back Bending:

2-Part Series: Wed. May 16th & 23rd (Now Full)
Focused on opening the sides of the torso as well as the lower waist using the breath and gazing points.

Kidney Foundation Month:

The proceeds from all 6-week yoga programs paid for in the month of March will be donated to the Canadian Kidney Foundation.


February '07

Arm & Hand Balance Workshop:

Build strength, flexibility and endurance by learning to practice arm balancing asanas and inversions. This is a 2-part series focused on conditioning exercises to develop wrist, lower back and abdominal strength. Various asanas will be explored in a series of vinyasas (i.e., movements synchronized with the breath and gazing points).

To enhance your practice photos will be taken during the workshop. Each student will receive a CD of their practice.

Dates: March 20th & 27th
Time: 7:30 p.m. to 9:40 p.m.
Space is limited to 5 students.


January '07

Back Bending Series:

Dates: Feb. 21st/28th & Mar. 7th, Time: 7 to 9:15 p.m.

Balance and standing back asanas: By using the yogic ‘breath’ learn how to extend and lengthen the lower back muscles along with the upper torso in a combination of yogasanas. Various conditioning exercises that develop upper torso flexibility and strength will be explored. (FULL)

Back Bending Workshops:

"Be like a stone, but flow like a river." Yogacharya Venkatesha, a renowned expert in back bending, once said these words during a back bending class in Mysore.

Wednesday, December 6, 13 & 20: This is a three-part series focused on standing and inverted back bends. Conditioning exercises include strengthening the arms, shoulders and wrists as well as the using the yogic breath. (FULL)

280 Hour Teacher Training & Development Course:

This is a 10-month training course for serious students who wish to become certified to teach yoga and develop their personal practice.

280-hour Yoga Teacher Training & Development Course:

Level I Course (280+ hrs) is for serious students and teachers of yoga. This 10 month ccourse complies and exceeds the standards outlined by the Yoga Alliance (200 hr) course. Begins October 2006 and ends mid-July 2007. Certification granted upon successful completion of the course.
